Salut,

I know this is an old post, but I don't see the question answered satisfactarily... qttask.exe puts a Quicktime icon in the task tray. To remove it, run quicktime, go Edit / Preferences / Quickime Preferences / Browser Plug-in and desect the "Quicktime system tray icon" tickbox. qttask.exe will still run on system startup, but it will not run as a process anymore.

Sorry to inform you Mike, but it's not that easy. You must be running an earlier edition of Quicktime. That is no longer an option in the preferences. Besides, the previous posters know how to edit their registries and use msconfig (as I tried), so give them some credit. If it was as easy as an option in the preferences menu, there would have been no discussion to begin with.

It is that easy. I did it. Otherwise I wouldn't have shared this information with you. Jeff, I am quite familiar with both regedit and msconfig. Being a Windows 2000 server administrator has exposed me to many problems, most of which are far beyond the mere removal of a taskbar icon. Give credit where it's due. I am running the newest version of quicktime, version 6. If you're running an older version which does not have the preference I refered to perhaps an update is in order.

I've seen this taskbar icon in the taskbar at startup without Quicktime installed. Apple pigs! Just because they had SCSI first and are the preference for Photoshop users they rub it our face? I'm PC for the games. Leave me alone Apple. They get theirs when they pay Apple Records for the right to use the apple symbol and name. God bless the Beatles!

Old thread I know ;) With QT 6 the option to remove the tray icon is only there if you're a registered user.

My system: Quick Time 6 on Windows XP. The file starts the task symbol of QT but it seems to be buggy. I deactivated this Program as follows: I started regedit and deleted this entry "QuickTime Task"="\"C:\\Programme\\QuickTime\\qttask.exe\" -atboottime" Under this path: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run] May be it helps you too. Try it on your own risk, because the registry is a very risky part of Windows. Regards.

Sur Google, il y a aussi un truc lié à iLumina: Mais cela me paraît moins intéressant.
